This is one of the shots I got tonight at the WVU vs Radford Basketball game. A lot of bad calls by the ref’s. WVU did win, and Alex Ruoff broke the WVU record of most three point shots in a game with 9
How to make a …
Since I have some time off from work, I decided to make some antenna’s to try and get some local HDTV signals. Tonight I was looking for some UHF bowtie plans, so off to google and I started typing in “how to make a ” and this is what the auto search showed me.. Thought it was kind of interseting what showed up.
how time has changed
As I walked around the mall and stores today it is surprising at what people do. Most people I saw were walking around with the cell phone affixed to their head. The funny ones were the man/woman couple’s that were walking together talking on their own phones to who ever. (would have been pretty funny if they were talking to each other.) Then there are the parents that are taking their kids around to shop. Everything from the very young to the teen ager’s. Considering it was only 30° yet, they let their kids be out in shorts and tshirts with no jackets. Then you hear them coughing and hacking their heads off while they are walking behind you.
The next funny thing is seeing a woman that was about 400 lbs wearing a t-shirt that said “to hot to love”. Turned around and saw another very large woman with a sweatshirt that had murder spelled backwards on it. Not sure what that meant.
If I only had a camera with me, it would have been a sight to see.
And the final thing, if you are the owner of a big box store, and have 20+ checkout lanes, and there are more than 3 people in each line, please freaking open more than 4 lines for people to check out in. (cough walmart cough)
Increase in Solaris patch cluster size
Justin pointed out to me tonight that the new Recommended and Security patch clusters for Solaris 10 were quite large. And right he was.. It seems that in the last month or so the 10 Recommended patch cluster has grown from 400meg to over 1GB in size now. (not to mention that he said you need almost 2.5 gig of space to unzip it.)
Looking at the cluster readme, I can take a guess as to why it is so large, there are multiple kernel patches. There are also updates to Firefox, Thunderbird, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Adobe Flash plugin, multiple Java Updates and a patch for the defunct Mozilla 1.7 browser (which in my opinion should just be removed completely).
The interesting part is that the X86 patch cluster is over 300Meg smaller than the sparc one. The only major difference that I can think of is that X86 doesn’t have Adobe Acrobat Reader yet.
I wish Sun would just offer a ISO download of all the patches now (sort of like the EIS dvd) for the public. Also need to find a faster way to download the patches.
Lego as collector items
Once a kid always a kid…. I have liked Lego’s ever since I can remember getting my first set way long time ago.. So I was out looking at amazon to see what they have come up with now days. To my surprise I saw a couple of sets that I have gotten recently. It seems that they are no longer sold by lego, and therefore are extremely expensive collector items… The plane I got at a local Target a year or so ago, at the time it was $49.99.. Now it is selling on amazon for yes, $329.99.. The train set, I recieved as a gift… It is now $300.00. I thought amazon was screwed up so I went around and looked at some other sites, and they too list these items for that much. and to prove it seeing is believing:
not even done looking yet, and found the same plane offered by the same third party people for $699.99 wow, just wow… $700.00 for something that not a year ago was $49.99. And in the 2 minutes it took me to type this and do another search for the train, it went up almost $200. It is now $499.99.
