I woke up this morning and tried to get on the interweb and wouldn’t you know it the cable modem was down. So I went down and cycled the power, nothing… Looked at the status web page for it and it says that it had only half of the signal. So I rerouted the house network through the DSL modem and went to Adelphia/Comcast’s online support chat thingy. Needless to say the person on the other side was clueless and said there were no problems in the area and that I needed to call a support phone line to get them to see what was going on. So I called that line and for the first time in the 6 years I have called them I was transfered to some one with out going in to a queue. So I repeat the problem to this guy. He then asks where I was at, so I told him. Then he said:
Oh, I think I know what is going on, yeah let me check. Oh Yeah, your town is being moved from Adelphia to Comcast this weekend and we shut off all the cable modems for between 24 and 48 hours. We sent out letters and email’s about it.
So I then told him that even though he thinks he sent them out, I never got them, and pretty sure no one else did. It was never in the local paper as well. I then told him he needed to contact his online support people as they said everything was fine. What a great way to move people, shut off their internet for 1 to 2 days and not tell them. I bet I get a third class letter in the mail on monday talking about it. At least he tried to apologize for me not getting the letter. Best thing about all of this is the students moved back in over the weekend so now there are 25,000+ people angry they can not get on the internet.
