I see that the Sun Certified Security Administrator for Solaris 10 test is now available. Just wonder how long it will be before I find out my results of the beta version of this test that I took.

Sun Certified Security Administrator test

I went on monday to take the Test. Not sure if the actions up to getting to the center were trying to warn me or not.. But here is how it went:

  1. Going up RT119 to Uniontown, and parts of 119 are down to one lane because of work on the other lane. Sat stopped for about 10 minutes while cars coming from the other direction made it through the 2 mile shutdown part of the road.
  2. Went to get off of the Pittsburgh Street exit, and the road is completely closed to south bound traffic, the only option was to get back on 119 and go west to get off at the previous exit. (they were tearing down a bridge to replace it.)
  3. Get off at the new exit and head to down town, and the stoplight was red, but I could not see it that well and almost went through the red light.
  4. Get to the testing center to find out they made the road a one way road, because they are taking the old parking lot that was there and turning it in to a 3 story parking garage. So had to end up driving around the block again
  5. Go in to meet the person at the desk and she told me that the students were out of down for 2 weeks and that it should be quiet (this was good!).
  6. Then the lady who was going to give the exam came over and said that one of the 2 PC’s used for testing was broke, and there was some one already in the center taking an exam, but she should be done at any time, as she had been in there for over an hour.
  7. So I set down and waited, for about 30 minutes and the girl still had not finished her exam (later saw that it was an exam for SAS)
  8. At one point the proctor came out and said that the reason the second computer could not be used was that it could not print to the printer for some reason. I then told her that is fine I could still use it as my test would not print anything out. So after about 45 minutes of sitting there doing nothing she let me in to take the test.
  9. Hour and a half later I was done and on my way out.. Good thing she let me use that computer as the girl who was in there when I was, had a friend come in and take the same test she did, so I might have been there for hours.

Now about the test, overall, it was pretty intresting. I had read the entire System Administration Guide: Security Services book from Sun, (yes all 654 pages of it). Some of the interesting parts of the test were there were a couple of questions about ipfilter, but it is not mentioned in the Security Services book, other than go read a different book.. (I have lot of experience with ipfilter so that was no big deal.)…

The one thing I did have a problem with and still can’t figure it out is kerberos. I tried to get it setup on a couple of solaris 10 machine I have at the house by following the Security Services book, but everytime I got to were you had to log in as the admin you created it just kept giving me an invalid password. So I am not sure if it was something I did, or something that was missing from the book, but I will have to try it again later… Now I just have to wait the 6 to 8 weeks to see if I actually passed the test.. here is hoping..
