Vacation days 3~5
This is a little out of order, but it took a little while to upload some of my pictures. One of the days I went out to get something I have wanted for a while.. The IC-T90 – 6 Meter/2 Meter/70 CM tri-band HT, which is a handheld transceiver for Ham Radio.. I have had my license since October of 1996, but never got around to buying my own radio. I was president of the university club for a year back in school, and borrowed one from them for a while. But I recently renewed my license and decided to get one. After all I was near the Ham Radio Outlet in Virginia, so I stopped by and picked it up. Pretty cool little radio, just need to learn a lot of what it can do.
After I left the HRO, I drove up to Gravelly Point
which is right across a little inlet from Reagan National Airport. Very good spot to take pictures of planes landing and taking off. While I was there, runway 19 was used for most all the landing/takeoffs, but on one occasion a plane was queued to take off on RWY 15, one was taking off on RWY 19 and one was coming in for a landing on RWY 22. If you don’t know, all three of these runways cross each other, so it was rather interesting seeing the coordination of this move. Some of the pictures I took are in my photo gallery. I took over 400, but narrowed it down to these few for right now. An interesting point if you go to take pictures there, bring some ear plugs. The planes are a little loud at times, but the blasting sound gets annoying (it sounds like a 12 gauge shotgun going off. I assume it is to keep the birds away from the runway, as they were usually aways on the ground).
