Comcast OnDemand soon?

August 16th, 2007

When I woke up this morning the cable box was off.. It had been raining and storming pretty hard last night, but the electric did not go out. So when I turned on the cable box the first channel it went to was channel 1… Unlike every time before, it now said that we had OnDemand service and to press the Menu button on the remote to access it.. Well the remote I had in the bedroom did not have the “Menu” key on it. So I went to the new HD-DVR and turned it on, same message on there. So I pressed the button on the remote that said “OnDemand”, it started to turn to channel 199 and then went to 201 which is HBO.. So I thought that they had not completely turned the OnDemand stuff on yet, so off to work I went. When I got home, I checked and channel 1 no longer exists any more and the OnDemand button still goes to 199 and then straight over to 201.. So I guess they were just teasing me this morning by trying to make me think they were actually going to give us some more service in our area…

The link to your home network seems to point back to the home page. Based on what I have read, I have a question. I love ZFS and think the x4500 is a good way to get Solaris back into places. Do you know of a good way to run Solaris on the x4500 (cuz we want ZFS on that bad boy) and present storage to Windows machines? I know I could do Samba but is there a better way? Can I use iSCSI to present the storage to a Windows server and have it, the Windows server share it out? I figured the cost per TB might be low enough to even get Winders guys to think about it.
